Happy Monday! I hope you had a nice weekend. I’m slooowly settling in down here in Florida — adjusting to the 99% humidity, working on my tan, and picking out my favorite place to go for froyo (which by the way, is Nuberri). It’s going to be an expensive few years if I don’t kick this daily froyo habit soon.
I’m still waiting for most of my baking stuff to arrive (the moving truck should come this week, woohoo!), but don’t worry, I’ve still got a delicious recipe to share today. It’s actually quite fitting with my move, too, since I now live in Florida, where citrus is just about everywhere to be found… orange chocolate chip cookies!
I’ve got quite a history with chocolate chip cookies, so to say that these are one of my all-time chocolate chip favorites… well, it says a lot! The orange zest gives the cookies a very unique, fresh flavor without overwhelming the other flavors of the cookie.

I think they should be the official chocolate chip cookie of Florida, no?
Soft, chewy chocolate chip cookies with zesty orange flavor. For a different citrus flavor, you can use grapefruit, lime, or lemon zest. Makes 2 dozen Prep time: 15 minutes Cook time: 10 minutes Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two large cookie sheets with parchment paper. In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugars until creamy. Add the egg and orange zest, mixing until blended. In a separate mixing bowl, combine the baking soda, salt, and flour; stir to combine. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until combined. Stir in the chocolate chips. Drop the cookie dough by rounded tablespoon onto the prepared cookie sheets. Bake 10 minutes or until the cookies edges are golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the cookie sheets 5 minutes before removing to cool completely.

Funny – I have my eye on a white choc/orange cookie recipe I’ve been seeing and when I’m back in my normal kitchen was going to make it. Love the looks of these!
my husband would love these. I don’t like fruit and chocolate together, i know, i am weird.
I love the combination of orange & chocolate! I’m not sure why I’ve never combined them in a cookie before but these look awesome.
love the thought of orange and chocolate together! i have some orange extract that i’m always looking to use–i think i need to give these a try!
Hey Liz! I love the combination of orange and chocolate. And this chocolate chip cookie recipe – what a winner! To say a recipe is your FAVORITE definitely says something.. esp with how much we bake! No chobani this time! I have to try these or something like them. Enjoy those FL oranges!
Wow, I bet the addition of an orange makes these cookies unreal! I never think to add orange into my baked goods, but I am making a note to do it!
I’d never thought to do it either, but so glad I did — I can’t wait to try other citruses, too!
My daughter just made these cookies tonight, with the addition of 2 tablespoons of cocoa with the flour mixture. They are delicious! The orange flavor is just right with the chocolate. We’ll be making these again and again – thank you so much!
Hi Liz,
Loved the cookie recipe. I made them this evening. My first batch spread out way too much though, so I added 1/8 cup more flour. The second batch was much better. I think the recipe should say between 1 1/4 and 1 1/2 cups flour. Truly delicious, though. Great idea to add citrus.
Hi Laura, thank you for the feedback! Flour amounts can be finnicky like that – I will adjust the recipe as you suggested. Happy holidays!
