Guess what I did this morning…

I signed up for the Chicago Marathon!  Yayyy!

I honestly wasn’t planning on signing up for this one so soon (registration just opened this week), but there’s buzz that the race might be full very quickly, and I didn’t want to regret not signing up.  I’m not 100% sure I’ll run it, but what’s $150, right?  Especially when the NYC Marathon costs over $250…

I’m still not sure of my fall marathon plans, but as long as flights aren’t through the roof, I see no reason why I won’t do Chicago.  Actually, I’m more in it to be a tourist!  I’ve wanted to visit Chicago for about five years now, and despite my sister living there for a year, and my best friend and I dreaming about a Chicago vacation, I’ve still never made it there.  I’d say it’s time to change that… Nothing says carb loading like deep dish pizza!

So, my tentative fall marathon plan is to wait and see if I get into NYC, and then decide what to do.  If I don’t get into NYC, then obviously, Chicago it is.  But if I do, I’m not sure… there are only four weeks between Chicago and NYC, but maybe I could pull off both if I just take it easy in the four weeks between.  Says the girl who could barely walk for two weeks after her last marathon…

Is anyone else running Chicago?  More importantly, where are the best cupcakes/cookies/ice cream in Chicago?

Congratulations! I did the Chicago marathon last year as my first (and as of now only) marathon. It was hard not to get up early Feb 2nd and register again! You will love the course, the crowds, and the city. I had the most amazing experience.

I’m not always up to date on the hottest bakeries. I know that we just got a Sprinkles and everyone raves about Sweet Mandy B’s. I am a big fan of fro yo and there are tons of great places to go. You can also do the half acre brew tour which is really fun!

I hope to be there cheeirng you and everyone else on. Enjoy!

Thanks! I will have to check out your recap. I’ve heard great things about Chicago (city + marathon).

Oh- I’m so excited for you! I’m doing my first 5K next month. I have a long way to go to get to a marathon, but I’ll get there. I took a girl’s trip to Chicago to visit a girlfriend. I loved, loved the architectural boat tour on the Chicago River. Around $25 and was well worth it. Also loved going to Blarney’s floating bar on the Chain of Lakes (boating fun).
Hope you do run it! Congrats on all your running efforts, I’m amazed.
And BTW- I made 96 of the red velvet cupcakes for my cupcake fundraiser (sold out very quickly). Still love, love the recipe (& frosting).

5k’s are fun, too – and much less painful. :) But yes, I’m sure you’ll get to a marathon someday, it’s a great accomplishment and I’m sure with your determination you’ll get there! Thank you for the Chicago tips, I’ll have to look into the boat tours!

My husband and I met at the Chicago marathon (at the expo) in 1997! We have both continue to run marathons (I more then he) and we love our sweets. Let me know if you have any questions as he is from Chicago. Downtown hotels might be booked but you can stay near by and take the subway. I considered running Chicago but will wait and do it in 2013 as I am currently training for the St louis, Mo marathon in April.

I signed up for Chicago too! Looking forward to running in my home city. Good bakeries: Sweet Mandy B’s, Molly’s Cupcakes, More Cupcakes, Hoosier Mama Pie Company.

Awesome! It’s neat to hear others who are running it as well. Thank you for the bakery recommendations :)

I’m in the same boat — entered lottery for New York but can’t decide what to do about Chicago!! I did, however, run Chicago last year and its a great race so you can’t go wrong. Good luck!
